General Eligibility

• Be a U.S. citizen and a current resident of Georgia (No out-of-state mailing addresses permitted)

• Be retired from a law enforcement agency recognized by POST in Georgia,
  OR
  Be retired from a federal or out-of-state law enforcement agency and currently reside in Georgia.

• Have retired in good standing with at least 10 years of aggregate service as a law enforcement officer with powers of arrest under the laws of any U.S. state or the federal government.

• Be eligible to possess a firearm under federal and state law.

⚠️ These credentials are not available to individuals who have not formally retired from a law enforcement agency.⚠️ 

Good Standing Requirements

• You must have separated from your agency in good standing (i.e., you were not suspended or revoked from practicing as a law enforcement officer, etc.).

• If you served outside of Georgia, you must provide documentation of good standing from the appropriate licensing authority of the state or federal agency where you were employed.
  
  

Required Documentation

• Valid Georgia Weapons Carry Permit: This serves as your background check and is required for national carry eligibility under LEOSA.

• Letter of Good Standing

• If you were not a Georgia officer: Provide a letter of good standing from the applicable licensing board of your former agency.

• If you were a Georgia officer: Your POST profile report will be used instead.

• Passport-Style Photograph: Must comply with U.S. Department of State passport photo guidelines.

We offer one training date each quarter for firearm qualification; this does not include Use of Force or De-Escalation training. 

You may request to schedule one of the quarterly dates through our training calendar; it is labeled as "LEOSA Qualification Date". The registration link is provided in the course description. 

 You will need to complete the LEOSA Retiree Registration packet PRIOR to contacting the Columbia County Sheriff's Office or the CCSO-RTC. Please see full details HERE or refer to the information above.
